Diabetes

ZZZZZ way to battle diabetes?

Looking to dodge Type 2 Diabetes? Hit the sack. That's the advice of a new study that was recently presented to the American Heart Association.

The study found that people who get less than six hours of sleep time during the work week had a FIVE TIMES greater risk for developing the disease. That statistic alone should make you want to crawl between the sheets.

The results of the study may be related to the relationship between sleep and a person's glucose level while they are fasting. The study examined the sleep habits of more than 1,400 people and of the three groups – people who got less than six hours sleep, those who had six to eight hours sleep, and those who got eight or more hours of sleep – only the group with less than six hours had a glucose level difference that could prompt the onset of Type 2 Diabetes.

There's an ever-growing list of benefits to a good, long night's sleep, so these findings don't surprise me. Maybe these new findings will get people to wake up to the idea that they should be sleeping more.

Never tiring of telling it like it is,
